Education

Adult Education

Adult Sunday School classes are offered at 9:30 a.m. each week. A class for those fifty and over entitled “Catechism Revisited” meets each Sunday in the Conference Room. Another class for adults meets in the first classroom upstairs in the Fellowship Hall. This group is currently doing an overview of the Old Testament.

From March 30 through May 11 Pastor Meyer is leading a New Member Class. This course examines the basics of the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective. In addition to those interested in joining COR, those who wish to learn about our faith with no obligation to join as well as those who are already members are welcome in this class.

Another group is doing an Old Testament overview course on Sunday mornings. This study gives the big picture of the biblical story that stretches over more than a thousand years, recorded in thirty-seven books that comprise our Old Testament. God spoke and acted through an astounding variety of individuals, not all of them Jewish, to reveal the truth. The study views the Old Testament through Christian eyes, exploring how God's Word to people living before Christ prepares the way for the Good News of Jesus, the Messiah.

Also, a group meets in the church conference room every first and third Thursday at 9 AM for Bible Study.

Children's Education

  • Sunday School

Children are encouraged to attend Sunday School at 9:15 each Sunday morning. Classes are provided by church volunteers for children two years old through the sixth grade, and the COR Student Ministry provides spiritual education and activities for middle school and high school students. Sunday school releases in time for children to attend the 10:30 service with their parents.
  • Children's Church

Children's Church is held during the 10:30 service, just prior to the Pastor's sermon. Children through the third grade sit with the Pastor for a brief children's sermon, then leave to attend Children's Church, returniing just prior to communion to receive their blessing with their parents.

  • Communion Classes

Communion Classes are offered to fourth graders to prepare them to participate in Holy Communion celebrations.
  • Confirmation Classes

Confirmation classes are held throughout the school year for seventh and eighth graders. They provide instruction in the foundations of the Christian faith and prepare students to be adult members of the church. The program for 2007-2008 will consist of four hour blocks of time about once a month.
