COR Council Recommendations for Updated Worship Practices, August 2021

Dear Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church,

Over the summer, we all looked forward to better days, the return to a more normal worship and

program life at COR. The staff has been incredibly busy preparing programs and opportunities.

And yet, once again, the future looks unclear with a dramatic uptick in the rate of serious illness, especially amongst the unvaccinated.  We need to be mindful of the needs and safety of others, especially those of our young and vulnerable, and must adapt as we have done in the past year and a half.

During our August meeting, our Council discussed recommendations from the Worship Team.

After thoughtful and prayerful discussion, here are Council’s guidelines moving forward:

We will continue a single Sunday Service of Worship at 9:30 a.m. for now.

Masks and face coverings are required for worship and other indoor activities and programs, regardless of vaccination status. We will be asking worship attendees to sit in every other row during our service.  Before and after the service, please use outdoor areas to greet each other and refrain from lingering in closed spaces.

We will “dial back” some of the liturgy for a time and have smaller groups and handbells bring

musical offerings instead of a full choir.

Communion practices through all this have worked quite well in our setting. We will continue

that practice and refrain from gathering at the rail for now.

Sunday School and other educational opportunities will be at 10:30 a.m. More details will be

sent out soon once Education Team works out best practices and needs, whether online or in

Oktoberfest at COR is still planned for October 30. Everything will be outside apart from food

prep and restroom use. We will spread out around our campus for activities and fun for all ages.

We will continue to monitor conditions and the rate of virus spread and adapt as needed. This

seems like a major setback in our life together, but once again, we will rally to remain connected

and faithfully be the Body of Christ as we are called and strengthened for witness and service.

Thank you again for your Patience, Understanding, and Support, and for getting vaccinated if you are able, for your sake and the sake of our community. Please continue to utilize all that we have available whether in person or online. You are still a vital part of Christ Our Redeemer and sent to bear witness in God’s world.

In the Peace of Christ,

Rick Aspray, President

Pastor Eric Friedrichs

On behalf of the Congregational Council of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church
